Why Plan G?
Predictable Coverage

What California Seniors Are Saying
Frequently Asked Questions
When does coverage start?
You choose the effective date on your application, usually the first of an upcoming month. The carrier confirms it in writing once your application is approved.
Can I enroll online myself?
Yes. For carriers that offer an online application, you're taken to the carrier's own secure application to complete your enrollment. A licensed agent is available if you'd rather have help.
Can a licensed agent help me compare carriers?
Absolutely. A licensed agent can walk you through the carriers available in your ZIP code, explain how the rates differ, and answer questions about timing and enrollment windows — at no cost to you.
Does Plan G cover the Part B deductible?
No. Plan G covers nearly everything Original Medicare leaves behind, but you pay the annual Part B deductible yourself — $283 in 2026. Once you've met it, Plan G picks up your Part B coinsurance and copays. That single deductible is the only difference between Plan G and the older Plan F, which is no longer available to people who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020.
Do I have to answer health questions?
Not to see rates. Whether the application asks health questions depends on your timing — during your six-month Medigap open enrollment window, or a California birthday rule window, acceptance is guaranteed.
What is the California birthday rule?
If you already have a Medicare Supplement policy, California gives you a 60-day window each year starting on your birthday to switch to a plan with equal or lesser benefits at any carrier — with no health questions.
